Art Couture

ArtPoint Hosted a Fashionable Evening at the Legion of Honor

On Friday, June 10, ArtPoint hosted a glamorous transformation of the Legion of Honor from museum to runway, with “Art Couture,” its celebration of the museum’s

Artwear: Fashion and Anti-fashion exhibition.

Throughout the evening, guests mixed, mingled and grooved to beats by DJ Marcella, while models from Look Model Agency breezed by, adorned in outfits designed by Academy of Art University fashion design students. ArtPoint teamed up with fourth year and graduate level students at the San Francisco’s AAU to stitch and sew up wearable art for this fashion-forward event.

Members of the ArtPoint Board, including Event Chairs Patricia Ivancich and Wheeler Simmons, were among the committee members who selected pieces that were featured at Art Couture.

While guests could not take the exhibition pieces home with them, an event drawing awarded fabulous prizes, including Lauren K for Saks Fifth Avenue earrings (valued at $600) and a $500 Saks gift certificate - sure to bring out the inner model in the lucky winners.

Michael Harvey, the AAU Fashion Journalism Coordinator;   Patrick Thomson, the AAU’s CDFP and Menswear Design Coordinator and Midori Sargent, the AAU’s Knitwear Instructor were all in attendance at Art Couture.

Dr. Cornell's enlightening, in-depth presentation highlighted the painting technique, historical context, and the personality of the artist.

ArtPoint organizes events such as Cairofornia to help support the Legion of Honor and de Young museums and strengthen the Bay Area’s rich cultural community.
