Auction Preview: Period Art & Design

Friday, January 27, 2012
Bonhams Auction House
5:30-8:00 pm

World-renowned auction house Bonhams invites ArtPoint members to a special after-hours preview of the Period Art & Design Auction . Old Masters, 19th and 20th century paintings, prints and sculpture will be on show. Specialists from various Fine Arts departments can answer questions about the artwork and the auction process. The main gallery will be open to showcase antique furniture and decorative arts. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres served, courtesy of Bonhams.

Period Art & Design is a new sale format following the successful sales of the same name in London. This monthly event features fine art, antique furniture, modern designer furniture, decorative accents, silver and Asian works of art - all in the $500 - $5000 price range. Sourced primarily from the West Coast, the property hails from private residences and estates and will appeal to beginning collectors. Bonhams, founded in 1793, is one of world's oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques.

This event is a special benefit for ArtPoint members (members may bring a guest); we hope that you will join us to learn more about the illustrious world of auctions!

Masters of Venice: A Masked Ball

Saturday, February 11, 2012
de Young Museum

Paris Bordone, Allegory of Mars, Venus and Cupid, ca. 1560. Oil on canvas.

ArtPoint invites you to take part in what will undoubtedly become one of the most talked about events of the year. In celebration of the closing days of Masters of Venice: Paintings of Passion and Power now on view at the de Young, ArtPoint is throwing a spectacular masquerade. Revel in the anonymity afforded by your finest Venetian mask and black tie attire; transport yourself to 15th century Venice where the use of the mask became the perfect accessory to the love of transgression.

Experience firsthand the mystery that for centuries has surrounded the Masquerade Ball. Revelers can expect exquisite works of art, spirited dancing, exotic cocktails provided by Solerno Blood Orange, and a few surprises. Dynamic performers will set the stage for an utterly unforgettable night.

VIP guests will enjoy priority entry an hour before the main event, tours of the stunning exhibition, and access to a private VIP lounge all evening serving Stags' Leap Winery Petit Sirah and Viogner, along with Greg Norman Sparkling Wine and heavy appetizers provided by Union Street Catering.

After indulging in these worldly delights, we beckon you to descend into the Museum's lower lever to view Masters of Venice: Paintings of Passion and Power from the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
